Hong Kong is also home to one of the world’s largest art auction markets. In 2020, Hong Kong overtook London as the second-biggest contemporary art auction market in the world after New York. Christie’s and Sotheby’s have major operations here. 

 

In November 2021, the West Kowloon Cultural District will open the M+, Asia’s first international museum for 20th and 21st-century visual culture which encompasses design, contemporary art, popular culture, moving image and architecture.

Art market: Millennials (25-40) spent greater amounts and bought bigger-ticket items than in past years, despite financial crises brought on by the pandemic. In Hong Kong, that figure is even higher—a third of bidders are under 40.
